LOCATION: Downtown Austin (Texas)
PROJECT TYPE: Roof deck / Buzon pedestal-based limestone pavers + Ashwood decking
WATCH TIME LAPSE VIDEOS HERE: Videos
DESIGN BY: Pearson Design Studio (primary) + JTA Stoneworks (technical)
STONE BUILDING TECHNIQUE: Modern Stereotomy
Last year, I proposed the idea of using the stereotomy approach vis-a-vis modern stone cutting technology to achieve the functions required but with the highest level of beauty. Fortunately, everyone agreed and the stone fabricator did a superb job of cutting the stone with their wire saw and 5-axis machine (see photos).
THE STONE: The "charcoal" Lueders limestone is the most dense limestone found in Texas.
- Deck Pattern = running bond
- Deck Paver Sizes = 1.5" x 24" x 36"
- Deck Paver Weight = 75 pounds
- Wall Cladding = varies in size + shape/ up to 250 pounds
- Landings = 9' x 3.5' and 5' x 6' / approximately 720 pounds
- Texture = "antiqued"
LIFTING TECHNOLOGIES: Crane, telehander, MQUIP vacuum lifters, WPG vacuum lifters
